Spark Digital Magazine

Project Overview

Early in my time at Seek, I saw a unique gap in how we were presenting segmentation research to clients. Generally we relied on a mix of traditional graphic design work and video production. These were commonly presented to the client in the form of a few static 8.5×11 quick reference sheets, videos on a either a DVD or CD-ROM, along with a multi-hundred page PowerPoint deck. I saw it as the perfect opportunity to utilize the emerging field of digital design to aggregate our existing deliverables and present them in format that was much easier to disseminate, looked significantly more professional, and offered a ton of flexibility to contain information across a variety of media types.

Additional Project Details

I like to include this project as the oldest in my portfolio for a few different reasons. Firstly, I would consider it my first true UX project at a time when the industry (such as it was) was in it’s infancy and I am proud of how forward thinking it was for the time and space. Secondly, I believe it provides a unique perspective that showcases my growth as a designer, allowing a comparison between this design and some of my later case studies. Finally, I think it is the perfect encapsulation of my overall design philosophy…

When I designed this product in 2010 for Seek, the first iPad had just released, Square and Kickstarter had just launched, and we were all playing our video games on a relatively new Xbox 360, Playstation 3, or Nintendo Wii. Trends and technology will be forever changing but true design transcends this. True design is rooted in an ability to connect with clients, think critically about their problems, and deliver thoughtful solutions.
